Tot-School

RockerTot is currently 20 months old.

I am still trying to figure out the best format for our Tot-School posts. Last week I divided our activities up by skill/content area. This week I think I'll give a day-by-day recap.

This week's focus was "Color of the Day". Each day, I chose a color and we focused much of our Tot-School time finding that color or playing with things that were that color. We also watched Mickey Mouse Clubhouse - Mickey's Color Adventure a few times this week (we had it recorded on our DVR).

Monday
I set up RockerTot's Blue Area the night before. (I used the shelves of his changing table.)


He built a blue Mega Block tower.


He then took the blue ball (made from his Stack and Roll Cups) and threw it to topple the tower. Then he repeated the process several times.


He attacked the blue nail on his Poundin Nails.


I cut the letters of his name out of felt and he insisted on using them. I hadn't planned on bringing them out, but he wanted them.


RockerTot learned to place cotton balls into a frosting container using tongs (all materials supplied by Mamoo). He loves this activity.


He also loved putting the cotton balls away. I hope it's a first step toward a clean room, but who am I kidding?


The Lacing & Tracing Animals were another activity that he requested.

Tuesday

This time, RockerTot woke to find that his shelves had red items on them.


He used his red shape sorter. (I normally use this one to store all of the shapes from the many shape sorters we have, so it was a change for him.)


He wanted to wear a red outfit and even put his rain boots on by himself.


He asked to play with his wooden number blocks (even though they weren't red).

Wednesday

RockerDad stayed home from work sick and RockerTot imitated him. We mostly took care of our sick RockerDad.

Thursday & Friday

RockerTot played with many of his Tot-School toys and his other toys. I just didn't seem to have the camera handy. Here is a picture of him using his fridge phonics.

I'll end with my favorite photo from this past week. I could have used one of the pics of RockerTot hitting the ball by himself, but I liked this one so much better.

Tot-School

RockerTot is currently 20 months old.

There was so much going on this week with Valentine's Day, RockerBoy and my nephews visiting and cold weather that I'm surprised we managed to do so much.
----------------------------

RockerTot can feed himself very well with a fork, but a spoon is his undoing. We've been working on using a spoon with his dry cereal snacks. He's doing pretty well, so far.


----------------------------

We tried to theme some of our Tot-School activites along the lines of the Letter of the Week Preparatory Curriculum this week. I don't know that we'll follow it to the letter (no pun intended), but it's a jumping off point.

Here, RockerTot is sorting some construction paper squares by color. I taped a dot of each color into the bottom of some plastic containers I had.



We checked these books out from the library (the only ones our tiny library had with cows in them). I read them to him several times this week.


RockerTot colored a picture of a cow. He is now borderline obsessed with cows.


He placed two of his raisins on the cow's eyes to show me where they were.

We played with the felt shapes I had cut out for him.


He really had fun with the simple fill & spill bottle I made for him. (It has q-tips in it therefore he was heavily supervised. He loves to put things into his ears.)


RockerTot played with measuring cups and books at his Mamoo's house. I'm not sure what the two have in common, but they were the objects of desire.

There were several chances early in the week to go outside and play.. I mean, to work on his gross motor skills.

He has been able to climb the ladder to the slide for some time now. He's so proud when he reaches the top. He always slides down on his tummy (with supervision).


He loves to play catch with RockerDad.

Baseball, Softball...


... even Football!!


Here is a picture of him hitting off of a "tee" made out of coffee cups. He thought it was funny when the coffee cups fell.


These photos illustrate the game he made up using a spatula and Nerf Dart Tag darts.

RockerDad led RockerTot, his big brother (RockerBoy) and two of his cousins (J & E) on a hike. The boys loved it!!

I'll end with another photo. Here are the four "hikers" in front of a caboose downtown. It is stationary, so they were able to climb on it and tighten/release the brakes. They all had a fun day together.

Tot-School

Well, I didn't think we'd accomplished much this week until I started going through photos. Here's a recap of what we caught on camera:

RockerDad and I found this set of Cooties at a local thrift store for $0.50. I knew that RockerTot would not be ready for the game, but I saw them as a great fine motor skill activity.


They were such a big hit that RockerTot insisted on building more cooties just before bed.


These were the cooties he created all by himself.

Here is a shot of him playing with his Magnet School word cards.


Leap Frog Fridge Phonics are still a big hit here. (We have decided to only leave 5 letters each from the Magnet School and Fridge Phonics on the refrigerator so that they are easier to keep up with. We use the same 5 letters from each simultaneously and switch them out for new letters.)


We found this Leap Frog My First Leap Pad with the book, cartridge and batteries at the same thrift store mentioned above for $3.00. He loves this thing! I think he enjoys "reading" by using the stylus. It's so cute to watch him.


Auntie Di read some new mini board books to RockerTot while we were visiting at Mamoo & Papa's house.

RockerTot helped me bake some sugar cookies. He loved eating the dough.


He also "drew" in some leftover flour while the cookies were baking. He loved feeling the texture of the fine flour on his hands.

Just in case you're wondering, it wasn't all business around here this week. RockerTot got RockerDad's (clean) superhero boxers out of the laundry basket (he loves Batman) and wouldn't put them down.

I thought this photo would be a nice way to end the update. RockerDad and RockerTot threw rocks into the creek while waiting for a train. I snapped this photo as they settled to watch a Norfolk Southern cross the bridge into our sleepy little town.

Tot-School

RockerTot is currently 20 months old.

This week has been a challenge. Weather has forced us to stay with my parents for a few days, so we did what we could. Our old home has no insulation and only two rooms have heaters. The temperatures have been in the teens.

Beginning with next week's Tot-School post, this blog will switch from an autobiography to a biography. I've been meaning to make the switch for a while, but couldn't figure out how to do it smoothly. So, I've decided to just do it. I'll be telling the story from my point of view from now on.

Here's what we captured for the week... through the eyes of RockerTot:

I tried out my LeapFrog Fridge Phonics for the first time. They were fun, but I don't like to leave them on the fridge.

I did several art projects. I especially liked my new Mickey Mouse stamp set. I tried to put the lids on my animal markers. They didn't quite look right, though.

I love to play baseball. My daddy says I need a tee (whatever that is).
----------------------------


I lost the orange pentagon that goes with my shape sorting ball, but my cousin Mallory found it so now I have all the pieces!

----------------------------








My mommy was reading another Tot School blog (A Scrap in Time) and she remembered that I had a Magnet School. She took it out and I played with it all week. The last time I did the cards, I did 17 before mommy made me stop. I also learned to sort them all by color. I placed the green letters on the back of my Magnet School box.
