First Grade Update

I know.  I know... I should change the tag/label and such to "Monthly Wrap-Up".   Things have been really busy around here, with renovations, soccer, scouts and life.

We're gearing up for Halloween.  Robbie has decided that he will be Link, from the Legend of Zelda games.  I made him a costume out of things we found around the house.  He loved it so much, that he decided to wear it during school time.

"Link" working on counting change, fractions and his math drill... also just posing. ;)

Speaking of school time, Robbie and I made the joint decision to drop Explode the Code.  He was nearly finished with the series, anyway... and neither of us actually felt he was getting anything from using it.  It just seemed like busy work for him.

Robbie still fights me about reading.  He can read anything you place in front of him, but he claims to dislike reading.  I hope he grows out of this.

Robbie and his cousin, E (who is here every other weekend), decided that they'd like to have a treehouse.  My sister-in-law helped them.  They now have steps up a tree in her backyard.... steps that lead to... branches.
Working on the "treehouse" with E and Aunt Di.

There's never a dull moment around here.  Robbie is either playing in my mom's large yard, coming up with some strange idea or plan, playing soccer, fishing or other fun.  He went to his cousin, Mal's, birthday party and had the high score of all the children.  He was very proud.  He and cousin, E, had a "camp in" in the living room.

Soccer games, "camping in" with E, bowling over 100, Cub Scout fishing derby... Whew!

.. and.... I just had to share these of Robbie in his new Tiger Cub Scout uniform.

He's so proud to wear that uniform.

I think he's a handsome little scout... but I'm probably biased.

So, what has everyone else been up to?

  1. It's good to know that Robbie has so much fun. We are incredibly busy too with second grade and afterschool activities but hanging in there :)

    1. Yeah, I guess "busy" wasn't the right word. "Chaos" might have been a better choice. I just can't find the energy to blog (and I assume that no one wants blow-by-blow accounts of our renovations..lol). We hope to be in our house by Thanksgiving. Maybe I'll blog more consistently then. :) Thanks for stopping by!!

    1. Yes. At first, I thought ETC would be good reinforcement.. but it really became a chore that we both dreaded. Thanks for stopping by!!

  3. I have heard of a lot of people dropping ETC. I'm still using it because I feel like its a good fit for us but I won't hesitate to drop it when I feel like its just busy work. I'm slowly dropping other things :) And, you know its October so I'm already thinking about what we're going to do NEXT year LOL ;)

  5. I like the costume. You did a great job. ETC was great when I needed busy work and review. My daughter is still using it.
