Connect Four Pattern Cards

Printables

**I do NOT recommend allowing your tot to use any of these items unsupervised.**

We play with the game Connect Four at some point each week. RockerTot loves to put the checkers in and really loves to release them.

I have been thinking for a few weeks now that it would be great to have some sort of pattern for him to follow with the checkers. I was up way too early this morning and I decided to make some. I have no color ink (and it's simply not in the budget right now), so I used card stock, a pencil and markers to make these. I have no doubt that if you make them on your printer, they will look much better. (This is a great example of function over form, lol.) I will laminate them, but that will have to wait until later.

I first set my game board (minus the legs to make things easier) over a piece of card stock that I had cut to fit the game board. I then took a pencil and lightly traced each circle as a guide. Then, I simply colored the spaces as I chose.

The first pattern I made was just columns of each color.

Here's how it will look to RockerTot.

Here is my checkerboard pattern in progress (it's simply on the back of the other one). You can see the faint pencil circles in the white squares. They will be black soon enough.

After I see how well these two patterns go over (or not) with RockerTot, I may make some additional ones.

The only way I can think to attach them is with some clear tape. If anyone has a better solution, please leave a comment. I love suggestions and you all always have the best ideas.

I hope to have some photos of RockerTot using these on my next Tot School update.

  1. Oh, I LOVE this!! What a clever idea. Connect Four was always my personal fave as a child and I know that Maddie would love something like this.

Color printer or not, I think these turned out great. Totally inspired to pick up my own Connect Four from my mom and dad's house!

  2. Maybe you can attach them with some velcro dots on the corners. Great idea!
