Weekly Wrap-Up: Summer Edition #5

Robbie and I fell out of our groove a bit with schoolwork this past week. It may not look like it, judging by the pictures, but it's true. We DID have fun, though.

Robbie read a story from his "Little Bear" book to me. If you look closely, you'll see that he has a paper towel scrunched up in each hand. It seems that he fidgets less with something in his hands (and, boy, is he ever fidgety!). He also read a Mercer Mayer book and some others, but I can't remember which ones. (Bad RockerMom!!)

Here he is finishing up some Explode the Code. Book 3 is all review, but he's still doing it. The reinforcement couldn't hurt. Plus, it is actually more on the level of his All About Spelling lessons.

He traces one or two spelling rules into his notebook each week. (I simply write them with a highlighter, then he reads and traces them.) I wish I had started this when we first began All About Spelling, but I didn't think of it until recently. Oh, well.. it's simply another form of review.

He did more spelling review work. This pic shows him spelling words (from dictation) with the -ng ending. He struggles with writing the letter "g", so that was the only hitch in this lesson. You can see that he got better as he went on.

He caught on very quickly to the concept of breaking the teen numbers into "ten and ____" to add in the teens. He struggle with writing the number "9" as much as he does with the letter "g". They are similar, and we've been working on them.

We worked on the Pledge of Allegiance.
(We've never done this before. He did not memorize it this week.)

He colored an American flag. He enjoyed this more than I thought he would. It will go into his Independence Day Lapbook.

He worked a jigsaw puzzle of the U.S.A. I believe this one came from the Dollar Tree.

Tyler is here every other Saturday and the boys always have so much fun together. This time, they had fun at a local playground, but it was ultimately too hot to stay for long. Even the shade provided by the many tall trees surrounding the park didn't give them much relief.

They had a water balloon fight back at our house to cool off.

The balloons quickly led to water guns, bottles and even large cups. It was a free-for-all!

I don't normally do bathtub pics, but I felt the need to snap one of him playing with shaving cream and his play shaving set. (I cringed each time he slid the play razor horizontally.)

Robbie made some "Fourth of July" (i.e. blueberry/strawberry) muffins one morning. He loved that they were red, white and blue (and yummy!).

He also made canned biscuit pizzas for our lunch on another day. He ate five of these.

  4. Robbie is doing amazing. Anna is going to the first grade and her handwriting is not as good as Robbie's. Happy 4th of July!
