Roll the Dice Sticker Game

Printables

**I do NOT recommend allowing your tot to use any of these items unsupervised.**

I made this game for RockerTot. I used a sheet of card stock (any paper will do, I only had card stock on hand), fuzzy dice (with the connecting string removed) and some stickers. Any types of counters and regular dice could work, though. We bought the fuzzy dice (for automobile rearview mirrors) so that RockerTot could have fun with some safe dice.

I drew a grid of 20 squares (any number would suffice, depending on age and ability) on my card stock and numbered them.

RockerTot rolled the die (we only used one to start with) and counted the dots. He then counted out the same number of stickers and placed one in each square sequentially. He repeated this several times.

When he had less than 6 spaces left (in our case, 2 empty spaces), I asked him to count the squares with no stickers. I then said that he had to roll that exact number. He rolled several times, counting the dots each time before he finally rolled his 2.

He then counted out his 2 stickers and finished his "game board". He was so happy that he "won".

I have a feeling we'll be doing this one again tomorrow.

I have included a link to a pdf file of 3 grids of 20 squares for anyone who is interested. The first is blank, the second is numbered sequentially and the third has numbers for the die that can be covered as that number is rolled. Click the image below to download the file.

  1. Did you keep counting sequentially or did you just add the stickers to the squares and count only the number you rolled?

  2. Danielle...We only counted the dots and stickers today. We didn't count on the grid until it was full (to 20), It was the first time, so I was flying by the seat of my pants. That's what I thought was so cool about this... there are so many different ways to do it. I think it should be adapted to the child.

The Irwins... I have fixed my typo. *blush* Sorry about that.

  3. We call these grid games. I've been playing them with Bear for some time now but haven't had a chance to post about them. I love your variations. When I finally do get around to posting about them I'll link you:)

  4. You are so awesome. I was JUST thinking how we've been slacking in the numbers department and then I turn on my computer and see this. Thank you so much, again, for sharing such a great idea!
