Current Read-Alouds

Our books and activities for the week mostly revolved around gardens, flowers, seeds and spring. Here are a few of the books we enjoyed:

"My Garden"
Kevin Henkes

This is a delightful book. It's about a little girl who helps in her Mommy's garden and how she imagines her own dream garden to be. Chocolate bunnies, jelly bean bushes and sprouting umbrellas kept Robbie giggling.

"I'm a Seed"
Jean Marzollo

This story is a conversation between two seeds as they grow into very different plants. The seeds compare and contrast their characteristics as they develop. Robbie and I took turns reading pages in this one. It was a great way to read it, since one seed always talks on the left page and the other on the right.

I always initiate a mini-narration from him when we're finished so that I know he understood the story and we discuss the story during and after reading it. Of course, we read more than these, but many have been listed before, will be blogged about at a later date or weren't worth a report.

  2. We're reading about gardens next week. I'll have to look for these, they both look great.

  3. There are so many great gardening books available! I don't think we've read these, though. Thanks for linking up to RAT!

  5. Love Kevin Henke's books! What a fun twist on gardening books. Our favorite gardening books are Lois Ehlert's Planting a Rainbow and Growing Vegetable Soup. I'm so happy that gardening season is returning!!
