RockerTot is currently 22 months old.
----------------------------
We had a fun week of Tot School. I was sick and it rained all week, but RockerTot was begging for his "school trays" daily. He almost didn't mind being stuck inside. He's developed an obsession (harmless) with this "Chicka Chicka Boom Boom" video on YouTube. He's also discovered dinosaurs and rediscovered his love for bedtime stories.
----------------------------
Grandma bought RockerTot Corduroy's ABC Felt Read and Play book that came with 77 felts (most of which are letters). It was a big hit this week.
----------------------------
We found many circles throughout the house this week. I drew circles on this styrofoam cup and he decided to poke toothpicks into the circles. (Mental note: markers on styrofoam smear... even a day later.)
He loved placing circle stickers onto a large circle of card stock.
----------------------------
He colored a picture that RockerDad printed of the dinosaurs from "The Land Before Time".
----------------------------
I made a coconut tree from construction paper and taped it to the fridge. He used his magnets to act out the story of "Chicka Chicka Boom Boom". You can read more about this activity at Totally Tots.
----------------------------
He found foam A's and B's in a hide and seek bowl ...
... then placed them on the appropriate pages in his alphabet notebook. Here he is tracing a lower case b with his finger.
----------------------------
I made a simple pattern/matching page for his mega blocks. He did much better than I expected, he just didn't like the lone blue one so he kept adding it to the stack of two. Oh, well.
----------------------------
We also sorted his Mega Blocks by color... he pulled out a block (while sitting in the container) and placed it on the correct stack. He really enjoyed this!
----------------------------
Our "science" experiment. I got this idea from K @ heart's blog. We dissolved one of those expanding sponge animal capsules. The first one looked kinda wonky, so we tried another. RockerTot really enjoyed this, but was a little impatient to see the result.
----------------------------
He threaded straw pieces onto dowels. I made handles on one end of each dowel by cutting a flexible straw where the accordian part meets the long side. I glued the short end (including the accordian part) to one end of the dowel with white glue. He thought these were really cool and he tried sooooo hard.
----------------------------
I just had to bring the spaghetti back out with the Mrs. Dash shaker. He gets so excited when he sees this on his tray.
RockerTot's Favorite Read-Alouds this Week:
----------------------------
As always, I'll end with my favorite photo(s) from this week:
This was RockerTot's very first time splashing in puddles. As the second photo illustrates, the rain boots did nothing to keep him dry.
What can I say? He loves hats and shoes. I wonder what he's planning to cook in RockerDad's Cubs hat...

Some great ideas. I love the Megablocks pattern thing and the alphabet book. I think I'll try those with Bear this week. I try to get Bear to sort Duplo by color stacking - she just isn't into color sorting:(
ReplyDeleteThere's a great little song about circles: (to the tune of the Farmer in the Dell) A circle is like a ball, a circle is like a ball, round and round it never stops, a circle is like a ball.
My LO loves for me to sing this to her. She also has the same addiction to the Chicka Chicka Boom Boom you tube video. :)
I just bought some of those magic beans that turn into sponges. We haven't used them yet though. We have not seen the youtube video, but I'm sure C and R will love that (Chicka Chicka Boom Boom is a fav in our house) so I'll try to get to that this week. Thanks.
ReplyDeleteOh GEEZ! There's so many ideas! First of all I have to get Z to watch that video!
ReplyDeleteI have to save this and re read for ideas. The cup with circles was way cool! Sorry about your marker mishap. I know all too well about marker issues. :(
Save those sponges and come up with a really cool idea to use them! I'm not feeling creativity ooze on those other than painting sponges.
Oh! And your little dude SERIOUSLY has such personality! So CUTE!
Thanks for sharing! I love to see what you are doing with Rockertot since are kids are so close in age! I'll have to give the patter matching one a try! Thanks again!
ReplyDeleteCool handle idea! {incorporating it . . .}
ReplyDeleteThis "chicka chicka boom boom book did not exist as I was growing up. I *must* discover what all the hoopla is about! LOL :D
You little boy is just so stinkin' cute! I love the pictures in the puddles; my Little Man would be right in there with him, that's for sure!
ReplyDeleteI too love your Megablocks pattern idea. I just recently purchased a whole lot of Megablocks and might have to try this with Connor!
ReplyDeleteThis is great! Thanks so much for the link to Chicka Chicka Boom on YouTube. Man, YouTube is really a good resource I haven't tapped into yet. Thanks again!
ReplyDeleteLove your blog!
What a fun week! Esme would have loved it!
ReplyDeleteJust wanted to wish RockerTot a happy birthday...
