Weekly Wrap-Up

This has been an odd week due to the fact that RockerDad has started on a "swing" schedule at work. He'll be on night shift for two weeks, then day shift for two... Rinse. Repeat. We're still trying to find our groove.

Robbie only has one more lesson (he is already comfortable with the two-syllable words in that lesson) and two books to read to complete his Hooked on Phonics First Grade. If he'll allow it, we may take a week off before starting the Second Grade lessons. He also finished his Explode the Code 2 book this week. He's very excited to move on.

I gathered up all of our early readers and he has started reading them. Once to me and once to RockerDad.

In addition to his normal Singapore lessons, he's also having fun with our "Old-Timey Math" on his slate. Each day, I leave him four or five problems on each side. He loves using chalk, so this is usually the first thing he does. Here is a shot where I gave him doubles.

We've also been playing addition and subtraction games with his big dice. He loves math, but I don't want him to get bored with the regular lessons. These little variations seem to work well.

Well... I made my first (and possibly last) batch of homemade play dough...LOL. It was really sticky, and while he enjoyed it, he said that he preferred the "regular" Play Doh. Oh well, I always knew I was a bit of a homeschool outcast. ;)

... so, we bought him some new Play Doh and he made "Tiny" Toad, Luigi and Mario (with a ginormous nose). I guess my sticky dough didn't damage him too badly.
