These are a few of the books we enjoyed this week.
A Child's First Library of Learning
This is a fun question and answer book about aquatic creatures. Each two-page spread starts with a question, such as: "Why Do Fish Have Scales?" and proceeds to give answers (and even exceptions). There are both real photographs and illustrations. We'll be reading and discussing our way through this book throughout the month of July to go along with our Ocean Life Theme.

This purified version of the fairy tale was not the best version of the story that we own, but Robbie really enjoyed the "read-together" aspect of the book. The left page has the story for the parent to read, while the right page has a sentence or two for the child to read. Robbie really enjoyed reading like this. I enjoyed the price (we found this book, as well as other titles in the series, at the Dollar Tree).
- Some other books we read and enjoyed this week:
- "One Fish, Two Fish, Red Fish, Blue Fish" by Dr. Seuss
- "Dolphins (Step Into Reading"" by Sharon Bokoske and Margaret Davidson
I have also listed many of the books we enjoyed during our June Outer Space Theme in this post.

I almost always initiate a mini-narration from him when we're finished so that I know he understood the story and we discuss the story during and after reading it. Of course, we read more than these, but many have been listed before, will be blogged about at a later date or weren't worth a report.

I'm always on teh lookout for nonfiction titles that are done well, so thanks for highlighting that particular title. I agree that the "purified" version of fairy tales isn't as good, but sometimes it's okay to give up something if it serves a greater (if temporary) good. Thanks for linking up!
ReplyDeleteWe love Child's First Library of Learning books - I remember you mention that someone gave it to you as a gift. Anna keeps rereading a few books that we have from these series, and I am going to buy more when I catch them on eBay. Thanks for joining WMCIR!
