Where In the World Free Map Printables

While planning our ancient history studies, I noticed that most of the maps of the civilizations and empires were cropped close-ups.  They reminded me of the maps in the back of my dad's Bible when I was a child.  Those maps fascinated me, but they might as well have been maps of Middle Earth, for all I was able to put them into geographical context.

I decided to make some maps for Robbie to use that would show where in the world these places were.  Once I created them, I thought that they might be useful to others, so I modified ours to make them usable for many other applications.


The file is a free download and includes the four maps shown above.  "Where In the World Is _____?" for current places, and "Where In the World Was _____?" for historical places.  There is a color and gray-scale of each map.

When we do civilizations, we will mark where we are, then he will color the area we are studying.  I feel this will give him weekly world map practice and help him see these areas in context.  We will add them to our history notebook, along with his narrations and other work.  He will also be doing some of those close-up maps, for more detail.  ;)
