I'd love, love, love to have a dedicated school room, but our tiny two bedroom one bath rental has no option for that.
Here are the shelves I placed below our unused breakfast bar in our "great room" (I use that term very, very loosely... it's more of a kitchen/living room combo.) to hold our manipulatives and such. This post goes into great detail about what these shelves hold.
He uses his school desk...
... or the floor ...
... or the fridge ...
... or the wall ...
... or the bed ...
... or the kitchen table ...
... or the couch ...
... but the best learning takes place outside!

Don't forget to head over to Heart of the Matter to read more posts like this one. As you can see on the calendar below, next week is student photo week. I'll try to pin him down long enough for a photo.
I can't wait to read about where everyone else educates their children! I love to see school rooms and organizational ideas.
The nice thing about homeschooling is that you can do it anywhere.
ReplyDeleteWe're very blessed to have a room know but we schooled for many, many years without one.
We just redid our room, it had turned into a pit, and I really love it now. http://prncsstefy.blogspot.com/2010/05/weekly-wrap-up-story-of-school-room.html
Because we have so many kids we don't have room for a dedicated school room either. (The room we can use is too small.) I think the kids like it better all over the house though. Great job with limited space!
ReplyDeleteOh, what fun photos your have!!! Just a couple years ago we were homeschooling in a 3 bedroom 1000 sq. ft. 2nd floor apartment, and we had 5 kids and a cat. I know all about space considerations. We were recently blessed to be able to buy a house with a nice huge family/dining room that we are using, and loving, now.
ReplyDeleteAnyway, thank you for sharing on the NOT Back-to-School blog hop.
What a great use of space! I too would love a school room.. I need to get creative with my space! Thanks for the inspiration!
ReplyDeleteVery good use of the space you have! They look happily learning away~ =)
ReplyDeleteLove his school desk! sooo cute! I've been watching craigslist for one, but no luck so far.
ReplyDeleteI love your shelves for organizing! Great idea!
ReplyDeleteAw! He's so cute! Thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteLove that desk! We have one too, and plan on painting it in some fun colors. I love that it has storage underneath too.
ReplyDeleteLooks like he is doing some really fun stuff! That's great how you make use of the space you have! Thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteDid you just trace the numbers onto posterboard? I'd love to know how you attached the pan to the wall, and where you got the block and card set. Thanks so much for sharing!
ReplyDeleteamybalbers,
ReplyDeleteI'll do my best to answer your questions:
I traced the numbers onto white contact paper and stuck it on the fridge
I attached the pan to the wall with adhesive velcro strips
I actually made the cards for our geometric solids using card stock and sandpaper.
Most of these types of things are detailed in my past blog posts (somewhere). I'll try to find them and link them up. I didn't think about doing that when I posted this. Sorry!
That desk is adorable, and you've done a great job organizing! We're all over the house people, too. My guys were so into Buzz Lightyear at that age, too. It goes by so fast. I hope your year is full of fun and blessings.
